This is my rendition of the Green Man, an icon that has been around for centuries yet remains mysterious as to it’s origins. Some believe Jack in the Green images date back to Celtic mythology and others believe the legends didn’t start spreading throughout Europe until the 12th Century.
During the Gothic Age, Jack in the Green images spread throughout Europe and appeared in random places. They’ve been found on the columns of cathedrals, in images of Christ and the Madonna, or within a setting of vines and florals.
This first edition of Jack in the Green is available in a choice of three different papers as follows:
- 2 available on hand-made artisanal paper (one in pale sage and one in a pale lavender background). This paper contains lavender seeds and fragments of blossom for a unique and rustic look.
- 2 available on white Hosho rice paper (pictured in the main gallery image)
- 3 available on 100% cotton cream coloured BFK Rives lightweight paper
Please make sure to specify which one you’d like.
