Traveling through Georgia in November of 2016, not long after Hurricane Mathew had ripped through the southern USA, we were heart sick at the signs of wreckage Mathew left behind. The ravaged landscape we passed through, and the losses we imagined those who lived in that area had to cope with, weighed our hearts down for days as we drove on. ⠀
Then, unexpectedly, we came to the place which inspired this print and which, the first in many days, seemed unscathed. No visible damage. Here, incredibly, trails still wound through sun-lit woodland, and an intact boardwalk still spanned a silent lake to a shoreline of trees blazing colour.
We stood on that boardwalk for a long time, just breathing. Acknowledging the gift.
This print is part of the Heron Road series – inspired by a year-long road trip along the back roads of North America.
