You stand on huge slabs of basalt, surrounded by woodland. The rock bed, in hues from pale gray to rose, is solid beneath your feet. So solid you can imagine it reaching down for thousands of miles, down to the earth’s very core. You feel grounded and safe. And humbled, as you realize these rocks have been in place, in that place, for centuries. Long before the first footfall ever touched them.
This print is part of the Heron Road series – inspired by a year-long road trip along the back roads of North America.
